Dr. K. Suseela Chandran - The Managing Director
The Managing Director and the brain behind the vision of a multi-specialty hospital KMC in Chinnanachiyur in Kurumbapatti panchayat. Dr. K. Suseela Chandran began her practice in obstetrics and gynecology in 1979 in a clinic till 1986 when the nursing home came into existence in Poolampatti road.
In the olden day her department in Karthic nursing home used to cater to obstetric emergencies from all villages of Idappadi taluk and the Idappadi town with patients having been brought even in horse cart times in the old campus in Poolampatti road in the wee hours and 24/7. With her tremendous hard work 24/7, she has single handedly ran the department of OG with limited manpower for decades and even now has very little exhaustion in her work.
Simple approach and down to earth personality with utmost sincerity and dedication for her obstetric patients which superseded her commitment to even important personal functions, there used to be no compromise in obstetric care round the clock, the children delivered by her make many of the working men and women, graduates and professionals now in this region.
With thousands of uneventful deliveries in all hours of the day every day in her career and with careful monitoring and a humane approach she is a household name in this region and the recent new block though named as Karthic medical centre is widely known among the public as dr Suseela hospital.
Dr. C. Pravin - Consultant Surgeon and Executive Director
The Doctor did his MBBS in prestigious madras medical college and passed out in 2006, Having finished general surgery in 2011 in Annamalai university,Chidambaram he initially planned to do super speciality and return to kmc Idappadi to practice. His words follows…
But when I came to practice in May 2011 , I was astonished to see the huge workload of surgery ailments ranging from simple wound debridement, circumcision to major abdomen emergencies right from day 1 in Karthic medical centre and realized the need for a resident surgeon.
I changed my mind to continue to practice general surgery instead of pursuing higher speciality since only a handful of general surgeons were practicing in the entire taluk and neighbouring areas in that period.
Seeing many patients with suspicious symptoms not willing to go to Salem for Endoscopy and Colonoscopy, I wished to learn the same by joining a fellowship program and started doing the diagnostic Endoscopies after learning the techniques and many malignancies were identified.
As the worldwide proven minimally invasive surgeries were important to reduce the pain and morbidity after surgery, I went for training in laparoscopic in Coimbatore and started to upgrade the then existing OT equipment to high definition system, imported german hand instruments, advanced energy sources such as harmonic scalpel and vessel sealer and safe anaesthesia delivery system suitable for laparoscopic surgeries.
Laparoscopic gynecology for both emergency conditions like ruptured ectopic and elective pelvic diseases are being done reducing the postoperative morbidity, Advanced Bipolar hysteroscopy TCRE set was incorporated in 2019 to the OT.
Many advances and regular laparoscopic surgeries were done with good results in this rural geography supported by our critical care unit and nursing staff. I applied for FIAGES fellowship after 2 years of laparoscopy practice and awarded the same in February 2014 in the Chennai IAGES conference.
Having completed many successful laparoscopic hernia surgeries, I cleared fellowship in advanced laparoscopic surgery FALS in hernia in January 2017 in gurgaon , Delhi by clearing fellowship exam and viva conducted by the doyens of laparoscopy in India. Laparoscopic oncology surgeries were also done since 2015 with the help of the visiting surgical oncologist.
Overall the department of general and gynecologic Laparoscopy , Hysteroscopy and GI Endoscopy and general surgery continues to improve and evolve to enable surgical care using minimal invasive technique as first choice for the betterment of patients reducing postoperative morbidity and pain.
